Wonderkid WANTED at Liverpool as interest gets serious

Liverpool's interest in one of Europe's most exciting youngsters is growing. Could he end up at Anfield?

Liverpool will continue their major rebuild in 2026 after spending a record-breaking amount in 2025. The Reds twice broke their transfer record to improve on a title-winning squad - though, they haven't quite seen the results they predicted.

But the rebuild isn't done. They haven't touched midfield, for instance, while there are several situations at centre-back that need sorting.

On the wings, too, something new must arrive. Luis Diaz left the club without a replacement in the summer and there's no successor to Mo Salah, either.

A lot to contend with, then, as Liverpool plan on spending further next year. And they might have found the answer to their midfield hopes.

Liverpool like Kees Smit

Soccer News in the Netherlands claims Liverpool's interest in Kees Smit is getting serious. The Reds are putting some real thought into pushing for the 19-year-old in 2026.

Smit is currently with Arne Slot's old team, AZ Alkmaar. He's made waves over the last couple of years, forcing his way into the first-team setup.

There's a lot to like. Smit can play in both deeper and more advanced midfield roles, while AZ have used him on the left, too. He's fantastic at progressing the ball - something Liverpool feel is a necessity in the middle.

Now, SN point out that there's plenty of other interest in Smit. Basically every major clubs has at least had a look at the teenager, especially after he won Player of the Tournament at the Under-19 Euros in the summer - a competition the Netherlands won.

In fact, Smit was also top scorer at the tournament in Romania. It feels like just the start of a long run of accolades.

And Liverpool are increasingly confident that he could earn them at Anfield.
