Liverpool right now have got an overabundance of left-backs. Since the signing of Milos Kerkez earlier this summer, the Reds have had THREE senior options in the position.

Andy Robertson has been the long-term incumbent - a Reds’ legend who first joined the club in 2017. But the 31-year-old looks set to slip down the pecking order following Kerkez’s arrival from Bournemouth for around £45m.

Teams in the Premier League such as Nottingham Forest and Fulham have previously been linked with the Greece international - who also retains interest from former club Olympiacos.

Marseille interested in Tsimikas

There is also a team in France’s Ligue 1 who are interested according to Foot Mercato and an approach could open up an intriguing swap deal for the Reds.

Marseille under Roberto De Zerbi finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain last season and were optimistic of kicking on this term.

They FAILED in their opening day fixture against Rennes however - going down in a game that had huge repercussions. Following the match, both Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe came to blows in the dressing room according to various reports.

Both players have now been transfer-listed with De Zerbi informing the pair they won’t play for him again.

Should Liverpool move for Jonathan Rowe?

And it may be worth Liverpool having a discussion with l’OM about Rowe in particular. That's if they can steal in front of Bologna - who are reported to be very keen.

The 22-year-old won the UEFA European under-21 title for England this summer alongside Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton.

He joined Marseille from Norwich last summer for around €15m and had a decent first season in the French top flight.

Rowe is also a homegrown player

By no means the finished article, Rowe could nonetheless provide depth to the Liverpool attack which has been left short on numbers owing to the departures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Ben Doak.

Rowe usually plays from the left but has also been deployed centrally as well as on the right by De Zerbi.

He has an eye for the spectacular and is a strong dribbler with the ball at his feet. It remains to be seen what the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes plans to do with the current imbalance in his squad.

But getting rid of one left-back too many and adding a versatile young attacker with homegrown status could be a shrewd move. Marseille will want to move Rowe on quickly. Therefore there could be a chance to strike fast.
