Liverpool now EXPECTED to make offer for €100m striker
Liverpool were back in action ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season on Sunday. Arne Slot’s title winners were victorious in their first preseason friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale.
Goals for Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo helped the Reds ease to victory. Nunez, 26, will be pleased to be back in goalscoring form having suffered an indifferent end to the 2024/25 campaign but the Uruguayan’s future remains under scrutiny.
There are no guarantees that the No9 will be leading the line for the Reds once the start of the season rolls around.

Napoli appear to be looking elsewhere - with Lorenzo Lucca now their main focus - but other suitors could come forward for Nunez before the end of the window.
Liverpool identify Ekitike
Slot has never been truly convinced by Nunez, who arrived at Anfield in a deal that could reach £85m from Benfica back in 2022. And if the Merseysiders achieve the right kind of money for the frontman, then they could well fund a chase for a new forward.
That’s why the latest links from Germany are intriguing - with Eintracht Frankfurt now EXPECTING Liverpool to bid for Hugo Ekitike in the coming days.
That’s according to a new report from Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who also claims that the Bundesliga side also haven’t given up hope of keeping their French forward.
Eintracht Frankfurt expect bids for €100m Ekitike
“Eintracht Frankfurt would like to keep Hugo Ekitike, also to be well prepared for the Champions League,” he writes on X. “However, Eintracht are expecting offers this month. Liverpool remain a concrete option.
“Newcastle have renewed their interest. Manchester United still there. Chelsea are currently unlikely due to the transfer of João Pedro.
“His price tag is €100m. How will the poker end?”
Sesko also named as a Liverpool target
Ekitike has been of interest to the Reds since 2022 - when he left hometown club Reims for Paris Saint-Germain. His time in the French capital wasn’t a success but the France under-21 international has done well to re-align his career in the German top flight.
Last season Ekitike got 22 goals and 12 assists overall for Frankfurt, helping his side back to the Champions League.
