£65m transfer twist will see fan favourite forward LEAVE

Liverpool upgraded their attack in last summer’s transfer window - but right now they are waiting for those moves to pay dividends.

We saw several players arrive - including Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

To make room for the new faces - it was decided that plenty of attacking talent would leave. Luis Diaz joined Bayern Munich, Darwin Nunez went to Al-Hilal and a deal was done for Ben Gannon-Doak to go to Bournemouth.

One player who perhaps surprisingly survived the cull was Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa not considered a starter

The 28-year-old endured a difficult first season on a personal level - despite winning the Premier League title - and it was expected that he would be permitted to join an Italian club in summer.

But he stayed put and fought hard for his place - becoming a first-team squad option this term and scoring two Premier League goals to date.

However Chiesa still cannot nail down a role as a starter - with a big few weeks in store when Mo Salah heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool could finalise move for Semenyo

What lies in store for the Italy international in January however is uncertain.

That’s because Richard Hughes has been linked with another raid on Bournemouth - this time for £65m attacker Antoine Semenyo.

The Ghana international, 25, has got an enticing release clause in his contract and Liverpool could well do a deal for the versatile forward. And if Semenyo arrives then it could spell the end of Chiesa.

That’s according to a new report in Football Insider - which foresees a return to Italian football for the winger if Semenyo is signed.

Semenyo in, Chiesa out

“I can only see Chiesa leaving if Liverpool were to bring in a replacement and whether they do follow up their interest in Antoine Semenyo, then maybe that could open the door for a move for Chiesa,” a report reads.

“They are working on replacements for next year.

“But it seems Chiesa despite not starting regularly he is happy at Anfield and happy to fight for his place and will do his best whenever he does get the chance.”

Chiesa joined the Reds back in September 2024 from Juventus for a fee that could reach £12.5m. He signed a contract until 2028 and has become a fan favourite throughout his time at the club so far.

However he has been unable to win Slot over in his time on Merseyside and could well be sacrificed to free up budget for Semenyo.
