Liverpool transfer news: Fabrizio Romano confirms formal contact made for forward
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool have been contacted over a January transfer.
Even though it should be a busy month for the Reds we are not expecting a lot of movement during the winter window.
Liverpool have never really been proactive in the market. They will react to certain situations for long-term targets but they generally prefer to do their business in the summer.
January is far too hectic and prices are far too inflated during this month. A lot of the club's top targets tend not to be available in these windows.
So, even though there are a lot of areas of the squad that needs to be addressed, Hughes won't be on the phone every minute of every day like he was during the summer.
The club will be taking a lot more of a measured approach. Pouncing when the opportunity dictates.
Obviously, this being said, Liverpool have already agreed some deals. The Reds will be signing Mor Talla Ndiaye from Senegal. The 17-year-old, who turns 18-years-old on 6th January, will be coming into the club's U21 team, rather than the first team.
Another youngster who will follow suit is Ifeany Ndukwe, who has also agreed to join the Reds but he won't be able to sign until the window after which he turns 18-years-old, which is in the summer.
These aren't necessarily the signings Liverpool need but they are exciting arrivals for the future and could be key signings when it comes to the long-term at Anfield.
In the short-term Liverpool will probably be looking at their attacking depth and assessing their options.
However, they won't just be considering arrivals, they will consider sales as well.
And one Liverpool player who could be on the move is Federico Chiesa. Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed on X that Juventus have made formal contact with Liverpool in order to sign the Italian.
The Italian club appreciates Chiesa and are looking to bring in a winger in this window. Romano claims that the decision is up to the Reds.
Now this is an interesting one. Chiesa is adored by the club's fans but he is not adored by Arne Slot. The Dutchman does not seem to trust him at all.
Chiesa has been limited to very few actual minutes on the pitch at Anfield, and it could be understood if he was keen on a move away.
Yet at the same time, Liverpool can't afford to lose him. The depth in the attacking department is already poor. Losing Chiesa would make it even worse.
So, unless Liverpool actually invested in an attacker this month, Chiesa should be staying put.
Whether he will, or whether he won't, is moot.

Romanoโs update feels significant because heโs usually accurate with transfer developments. That said, formal contact doesnโt always guarantee a deal, so what do other Football Bros IO fans think might be the biggest obstacle โ fees, wages, or competition from other clubs?
