Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool deal is ON after signing Giovanni Leoni

Fabrizio Romano says one Liverpool deal is now on after the Reds' move for Giovanni Leoni. Things are moving quickly.

There isn't that much time left in the summer transfer window. Only around two weeks to go, in fact, and Liverpool have some big plans they need to happen.

Giovanni Leoni is the start of that. The 18-year-old is on the verge of completing a move to Liverpool from Parma for around €35m.

With that, the Reds finally replace Jarell Quansah, who left earlier in the transfer window. There will be a quartet of centre-backs at the club, eliminating the same concerns we saw back in 2020.

But Liverpool aren't actually done there. The Reds have more players on their radar as they also hope to get some sales done.

There isn't a lot of time left but Fabrizio Romano is adamant - one incoming deal is very much on.

Fabrizio Romano on Marc Guehi

Romano was talking on his YouTube channel on Thursday night, going over some details on the Leoni deal. But he also made it clear: Liverpool will want to sign Marc Guehi.

"The deal is absolutely done for Leoni," he said. "The deal is absolutely on for Marc Guehi."

Guehi now has under one year left on his contract at Crystal Palace and it leaves the Eagles in a difficult spot. Chairman Steve Parish made it pretty clear earlier in the week that they can't afford to let him walk for free.

It means the pressure will ramp up as we get closer to September. Liverpool will feel in pole position to sign Guehi, too - but there is a problem.

Guehi doesn't want to sign for anyone who won't play him regularly. That wouldn't be an issue in a year's time because Ibrahima Konate is expected to leave with the end of his own contract.

This summer, however, would mean bringing Guehi in while Konate is still around. That makes it difficult for Liverpool to hand out any guarantees over playing time.

We do wonder if that'll be a deal-breaker. At the same time, Real Madrid are interested in signing the Frenchman this summer.

A lot of moving parts here, then.
