Di Marzio confirms talks with AC Milan over £70m striker deal
The focus at Liverpool in recent days has been completing a British record deal for Alexander Isak. Liverpool opened the bidding for the Newcastle striker last Friday - offering a sum in the region of £120m.
That wasn’t enough to convince the Geordies to sell their star attraction but it looks like the Reds will be back before the transfer window closes.

A deal looks possible around the £135m mark according to various sources. Having already spent over £260m on new players this summer, it looks like Richard Hughes will have to complete a clearout of sorts before Isak comes on board.

We’ve already seen Luis Diaz join Bayern Munich for around £65m and other departures this summer have included Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips and Jarell Quansah.
Nunez tipped for a departure
Darwin Nunez is another player widely tipped to leave - but deals with Napoli and Atletico Madrid have already broken down this summer.
Until the weekend it appeared that the Uruguayan’s destiny lay in Saudi Arabia - with Simone Inzaghi summoning the 26-year-old to Al-Hilal.
But Nunez may now get his wish for a transfer to a top European club if the latest report from Gianluca Di Marzio is to be believed.
Milan's first choice is Nunez
AC Milan are now described as prime suitors by the Italian transfer supremo - and have already reached out to Nunez about a deal.
“Milan's first choice for attack is Darwin Nuñez,” the report reads. “The Rossoneri have made an attempt to sign the Liverpool player, but negotiations remain difficult.
“Al Hilal are also interested in Nuñez, but Milan have already spoken to the player.
“The Arab club hasn't yet submitted an official offer, but they remain vigilant about the striker.”
Nunez exit can fund Isak bid
Liverpool paid Benfica a fee that could reach £85m for Nunez back in 2022. Under contract until 2028, it is expected that the Reds could settle for around £70m in the transfer window.
The player fell out of favour with Arne Slot during the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning campaign - barely featuring in the second half of the season.
If Liverpool can add that £70m to the £65m banked for Diaz then it would appear that a move for Isak is very much in play. Let’s hope Newcastle play ball.
