Liverpool have been approached by Inter Milan for Curtis Jones.

The 25-year-old - a two-time Premier League winner - was originally targeted by Inter back in January.

Owing to a lack of cover elsewhere the decision was taken to retain Jones for the rest of the season at least.

The England international is now into the final 12 months of his current deal - expiring in 2027.

Liverpool risk losing Jones for nothing

That of course puts Richard Hughes in an awkward position over six-cap Jones. Either sell the playmaker this summer or else risk losing him for free next year.

And the Italian champions have been keen to capitalise on that conundrum. So far the Nerazzurri haven’t come close to matching Liverpool’s £35m valuation - stopping short at around £21m according to various reports.

Inter haven't reached Jones' valuation

The Milan giants need to sell players - particularly Davide Frattesi - before concluding an incoming midfielder deal. In the meantime Jones has been selected by Andoni Iraola for the preseason tour of the United States.

Various reports suggest that the No17 could end up signing a new contract if he stays beyond the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Gianluigi Longari - a Sportitalia journalist - Jones STILL wants to leave Liverpool for Inter during the current transfer period.

Jones wants to leave for Inter deal

“Despite the appreciation from Liverpool's new coach Iraola, Curtis Jones continues to welcome Inter's advances and is open to the possibility of reaching Milan in this transfer window,” he writes on X.

“Curtis Jones and Inter: prospect still open.”

It’s been suggested that Jones has already okayed a five-year contract deal at San Siro - where he would get much more first-team football in his preferred position of midfield.

Towards the back end of Arne Slot’s reign the Scouser was used at right-back and could not make a decisive breakthrough in midfield as a starter.

Right now it remains to be seen whether or not he will keep his head down and get on with the job at hand or else agitate for a move to Italy before the window closes.
