Liverpool are still trying to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.

The double European champions are sticking steadfastly to their valuation of the France international winger - around €160m to €170m.

Talks are currently at an impasse - with Liverpool no doubt keen to add the 23-year-old before the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Liverpool will have too many left wingers

Barcola would not necessarily be the natural replacement for Mohamed Salah - who joined Trabzonspor on a bumper free transfer last week.

The former Lyon academy graduate is more of a left-wing option - although he is capable of featuring on the right. His signing at a sky-high fee would leave Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes requiring sales on the left side of the attack.

Rio Ngumoha, Cody Gakpo and new signing Victor Munoz are already in line to compete for a starting berth and the addition of Barcola would take Iraola’s numbers in the department to four.

Gakpo to be sold to Spurs

The most likely to leave is Gakpo. The 27-year-old has been at Anfield since January 2023 - extending his time at the club with a mammoth £250k per week contract extension last year.

But the Dutch international is reportedly keen on a move to Tottenham - with Roberto De Zerbi a long-standing admirer. A report in Football Insider is now claiming that a significant hurdle for the deal is being cleared.

Spurs will bank around £60m on the sales of Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid and Djed Spence to Inter Milan respectively.

That in turn will feed enough money into the coffers in order to secure a deal for Gakpo - with Liverpool reportedly valuing their versatile forward at around £60m.

Spurs raise £60m Gakpo fee through sales

“Spurs are accelerating a move for Gakpo as they focus their efforts on making him their seventh senior signing of the summer window,” the report reads.

“Tottenham have held a long-term interest in his services and Roberto De Zerbi is keen to see him arrive in N17.

“Cristian Romero and Djed Spence are both closing in on respective moves away from the club that could raise in excess of £60million combined.

“Gakpo's price tag is reportedly set at around £60m, so his arrival would likely take Spurs' summer spending past the £300m mark.”

Gakpo’s departure would clear some space from the wage bill - which could in turn be used to service the massive contract Barcola will no doubt be looking for.

And the £60m will come in very handy indeed when it comes to assembling a package closer to what is deemed acceptable by PSG.
