Head Coach Arne Slot is reportedly desperate for Liverpool to sign a highly-rated Benfica midfielder in January.

Slot had a relatively quiet summer transfer window with Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili being the only signings made by the club, with the latter remaining at his current club Valencia until next summer.

The Reds will be able to bolster their squad again in January, however it remains to be seen whether any new faces will arrive at Anfield this winter.

Slot wants Kokcu

According to Portuguese outlet Record , Slot is eyeing up a reunion with former Feyernoord captain Orkun Kokcu. The midfielder has already had a magnificent start to the season.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals and registered three assists in nine appearances in all competitions. With Slot also making a magnificent start to the season winning six of his first seven Premier League matches, it could be a perfect match for the pair.

The Turkish player led Slot's Feyernoord side to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season and the coach believes Kokcu could further strengthen the Liverpool squad who have a congested campaign.

Liverpool previously signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica who hasn't had much luck at Anfield. The Reds would be hoping that if they secure a move for Kokcu, he would have more success at the club.

Kokcu's contract at Benfica is set to expire in 2028 and is believed to have release clause of around £103m with the Portuguese side said to want £67m for the player in January. However, they seem reluctant to let one of their stars leave.

With Slot seemingly looking to bolster the midfield, could he perhaps be unhappy with his current line-up. Though, with the success Kokcu and Slot have had together, it doesn't seem too farfetched that the Dutchman always planned to bring the midfielder to Merseyside.
