Anthony Gordon back on the agenda as Newcastle HINT at exit
Newcastle look set to compete for the signature of Bryan Mbeumo this summer. The Brentford forward, who has scored 18 Premier League goals this season, is widely expected to move on.
Having joined the Bees from Troyes in 2019, the 25-year-old has been among their most consistent performers throughout their rise from the Championship to mainstays in the top flight.

The Cameroon international has got one year left on his contract - with an option for another year - but it looks like the West London side will cash in during the next transfer window.

A fee of £50m to £60m has been mooted for Mbeumo, who forms a devastating strike partnership with Yoane Wissa. Liverpool have been credited with interest, with the left-footer appearing a good fit to eventually replace Mohamed Salah in Arne Slot’s attack.
There is little immediate need to find a successor to Salah given he’s now tied to the club until 2027 but Liverpool could opt to alleviate the burden on the 32-year-old over the next couple of seasons.
But Newcastle’s hunt for Mbeumo could have another knock-on effect for the Reds.
Newcastle like Mbeumo
The Telegraph reports that the Magpies like Mbeumo but have doubts over meeting his asking price.
If they miss out on Champions League football then budgets will be impacted and - without sales - they could struggle to stump up the cash.
And who could be sold to generate funds?
Anthony Gordon has struggled for impact over the past few weeks. The 24-year-old hasn’t started a game since early March - when he was sent off against Brighton in the FA Cup.
He’s also had to contend with a knee injury and - combined with the form of Harvey Barnes - the England man has been restricted to a bench role.
Gordon back on the agenda for Liverpool?
But he’s still a fine player. And one that Liverpool like. Newcastle ended up selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton in order to satisfy PSR requirements and did not have to part ways with Gordon in the end.
In fact, he signed a new contract and all looked rosy in the garden. But recent events might well persuade Eddie Howe to cash in on Gordon in order to pursue a deal for Mbeumo.
That would leave the Reds with a clear run at Gordon although the asking price will have climbed high since the former Everton man’s renewal.
With the Reds expected to sell Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez in summer there will be money to spend.

Gordon, a Liverpool player as a schoolboy, would be welcomed back to Anfield and could reignite his career after the most challenging few weeks of his spell at St. James’ Park to date.
