Liverpool closing in on dream swap deal with European giants

Liverpool are closer to a dream swap deal with a European giant after a recent report.

Since when did swap deals stop being a thing? In the age of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) it feels like clubs are no longer financially incentivised to do swap deals.

Gone are the days of Zlatan Ibrahimovic being swapped for Samuel Eto'o or Ashley Cole and William Gallas swapping sides in London.

Now we get inflated transfer fees and two different transactions between two teams.

It's a lot less exciting, and a little bit fabricated at times. But perhaps Liverpool could take us back to the old days very soon with a traditional swap deal that works out well for both sides.

Florian Wirtz's struggles at Liverpool

What the Reds were promised when the German arrived at Anfield was not what they got. It's becoming painstakingly apparent that perhaps Wirtz wasn't the right choice for Liverpool.

Perhaps, just like most big decisions, Richard Hughes did not get this one quite right either.

Wirtz is a phenomenal talent. Let's be clear. He is a wonderful footballer. But for whatever reason things are just not working out for him at Liverpool.

It could be the system, the fact that his style of play isn't suited to English football or a lack of confidence. We don't really know. We may never know.

But the fact is that things are not working out. That much is clear. So, what's the solution?

The remarkable Florian Wirtz and Michael Olise swap deal

TEAMtalk are reporting that Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on Wirtz's situation and are ready to make a move if Liverpool give up on the German international.

Well, Anfield Watch understands that at the same time Liverpool are monitoring Michael Olise's situation.

The Reds' new minority majority stakeholders 1892 Holdings led by Amit Bhatia want to make a big name signing in 2027 and see Olise as the ideal target especially given Liverpool's needs for a left-footed right-winger.

So, here's the perfect solution.

A straight swap. Wirtz for Olise. Or maybe Wirtz plus a bit of cash for Olise. Surely, it's no-brainer for both sides. Bayern know Olise won't be at the club forever.

This way, they get a player in Wirtz, who they've always wanted in return.

Either way, with Bayern's interest in Wirtz, and Liverpool's interest in Olise, a dream swap deal is very much closer.
