Alexander Isak's Newcastle transfer request stance confirmed
Alexander Isak has now made it abundantly clear that he no longer wishes to play for Newcastle.
The 25-year-old striker first missed the club’s preseason tour to Asia before being spotted training alone at former club Real Sociedad’s facilities.

Since then Newcastle have played their first 2025/26 Premier League fixture of the season - a 0-0 draw away at Aston Villa. Isak was absent - seemingly on strike and intent on pushing through his move to Liverpool.

The Reds were suitably encouraged to submit an official offer to the Magpies - although that £110m bid came to nothing.
Will Isak hand in a transfer request?
So far sporting director Richard Hughes hasn’t come back - although the window does not close until September 1.
Isak released a statement on Tuesday night claiming that trust had been eroded between himself and his employers and it’s hard to envisage a way back for the forward.
Nonetheless the Sweden international has not yet submitted an official transfer request. There is a reason for this however as it appears the forward would be looking at some pretty big financial penalties if he did so.
Isak signed for Newcastle back in 2022 from Real Sociedad - agreeing a six-year contract after a £63m deal.
Now a sports law barrister from 33 Bedford Row, Jibreel Tramboo, has told the Athletic that he doesn’t expect the No14 to issue an official transfer request despite the state of relations with Newcastle.
Don't expect an Isak transfer request
“If a player hands in a transfer request, then it can affect some of their loyalty bonuses in the contract and some of those can become void,” Tramboo states.
“I don’t think handing in a transfer request does much for a player in terms of negotiation. It has no real legal power. In practice, it’s a political tool, which is why you rarely see them anymore.”
Liverpool must wait
Right now Liverpool are in a holding pattern.
Newcastle have said they will be ready to welcome Isak back into the fold when the time is right - and don’t appear any closer to adding a replacement to their squad.
A deal for Yoane Wissa remains live - but the Geordies would also require another No9 before agreeing a potential £150m deal with Liverpool for Isak.
One thing we shouldn’t expect is that drastic step from Isak, who currently earns around £120k per week from the St. James’ Park side.
