Isak has had his heart set on Liverpool ever since informing Newcastle that he had no wish to discuss a new contract. Tied to the St. James’ Park club until 2028, the Sweden international is nonetheless seeking a quick exit this summer.

Liverpool are prepared to once again break the British transfer record - having paid up to £116m for Florian Wirtz earlier this summer.

Deal agreed with Isak

Isak would likely command a fee in the region of £130m - and the Reds are feeling confident following the £65m sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.

Florian Plettenberg, the Sky Sports Germany journalist, now claims that club-to-club talks are well underway and personal terms have ALREADY been agreed between the Reds and Newcastle.

Talks between LFC and Newcastle are progressing

“Talks between Newcastle and Liverpool over Alexander Isak are progressing well,” he wrote on X.

“The player’s camp are very positive about the situation. Isak is hopeful that an agreement between the clubs can be reached. A record bid will be needed.

“A verbal agreement in principle over a contract running until 2031 has been reached with Liverpool.”

Big changes coming for Liverpool

Isak would join Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili as summer arrivals for the Premier League champions.

As well as Diaz, we could see outbound deals for Darwin Nunez, Ben Doak, Federico, Chiesa, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton in the next few weeks.

With the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes having already overseen £260m-worth of signings - and Isak to come - sales are required.

The Premier League champions promise to look very different by the time the new season kicks off. And they could have Isak on board as the face of their new project.
