Liverpool get Alexander Isak boost as Newcastle close on SEVEN forward deals

Liverpool have had one bid knocked back for Alexander Isak this summer.

A few weeks ago an offer of £110m was slid across the desk of Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe. But that effort was rejected out of hand by the Geordies for two key reasons.

One - it didn’t come close to the valuation set by the club for Isak. It’s believed they value their star forward at £150m. And secondly, Newcastle have a chronic shortage of strikers following the loss of Callum Wilson.

There is no way they would agree to sell Isak - whatever the price - unless a replacement was lined up. Having missed out on Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and of course Hugo Ekitike, the Magpies would like to hang on to Isak for as long as possible.

Newcastle chasing multiple targets

If he goes without a successor being sourced then it leaves William Osula as their only viable alternative.

The North East side already required a replacement for Wilson - now they need TWO forwards before agreeing to sell Isak. That’s why Liverpool better hope they get some deals over the line before September 1.

There are at least SEVEN names in the frame for Newcastle right now - according to a new report in TBR Football. Here’s the current situation as it stands.

Strand Larsen and Wissa heavily linked

Jorgen Strand Larsen: Wolves appear to want around £70m for their Norwegian international striker - who has only just finalised a permanent deal at Molineux having spent last season on loan.

Yoane Wissa: Newcastle and Brentford remain apart on their valuation of the 29-year-old. He is out of contract in 2026 although the Bees have got the option to extend it for another year. However he is NOT the Isak replacement. If Liverpool are to get the Swede then it’ll have to be Wissa and one other.

Nicolas Jackson: Definitely for sale following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. Liverpool will have to fight it out with Aston Villa, Bayern Munich and others for the 24-year-old.

Ollie Watkins: Has surprisingly started BOTH of Aston Villa’s opening Premier League games despite being linked with the exit all summer. Villa quoted Manchester United around £60m a few weeks ago.

New names in the frame including Harder

Conrad Harder: TBR Football is claiming that third parties have offered the Sporting CP striker to Newcastle in recent days. A move to AC Milan at one stage appeared imminent for the 20-year-old Dane but he could yet end up at St. James’ Park.

Alexander Sorloth: Probably the best fit for what Newcastle require. The 29-year-old is a physical beast with a very good goalscoring record. He fears slipping down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid and has reportedly sounded out interested clubs over a move.

Artem Dovbyk: The Ukrainian was LaLiga’s top scorer in 2023/24 before moving to Roma for €30m. However it appears the 28-year-old isn’t well-liked by new coach Gian Piero Gasperini - who prefers Evan Ferguson.

Accordingly he has been pushed towards Newcastle by intermediaries according to reports in Italy. Let’s hope Newcastle can land one of these targets soon - bringing a satisfactory end to the Liverpool chase for Isak.
