Not just Al-Ittihad: Fabrizio Romano confirms MLS interest in Mo Salah
Transfer talk around Mohamed Salah is beginning to heat up.
The Egyptian King, 33, renewed his Liverpool contract towards the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Signed on a two-year deal until 2027 - for around £400k per week - it was seen at the time as a no-brainer for sporting director Richard Hughes.
Salah would go on to be crowned Premier League player of the year - as well winning the top goalscorer and playmaker awards. But right now the Egypt captain is struggling to find his best form.
He has been relegated to the bench by Arne Slot during the 2025/26 season - leading to a high-profile falling out with the club. Although relations have been patched up it is likely that the Premier League champions cash in on Salah in 2026.
Al-Ittihad are known to be keen on Salah - laying the groundwork for a mammoth £1.2m per week deal to attract him to the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Ittihad want £1.2m per week deal for Salah
The Saudi giants have got space in their squad - and their budget - for a superstar signing following the losses of N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema in January.
But it’s not ONLY Ittihad who are intending to sign the Liverpool legend. According to Fabrizio Romano other high-profile teams in Saudi Arabia will be right there for Salah’s signature this summer.
“Clubs from Saudi Arabia will be back for Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window,” he told his YouTube audience.
“I’m told that there could be more Saudi clubs attentive and keen on Mohamed Salah.”
San Diego could provide MLS interest
But interest in Salah won’t end there.
We could see a deal which sees the two-time African footballer of the year join a team in Major League Soccer according to Romano.
“Let’s see also from the MLS if some club decided to enter the conversation and sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool,” he said.
“I think it’s going to be an interesting summer around the Egyptian winger.”
It would be a surprise if an American team could put together a massive transfer package in order for Salah to arrive.
But don’t discount San Diego FC. Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour is the owner of the MLS newcomers - and is reported to be ready to use his connections in order to make a deal for Salah.
So even if the Al-Ittihad interest falls apart it now looks apparent that several teams are now ready to contest Salah’s signature.
We could be in the endgame for the forward’s time at Anfield -which has produced two Premier League titles as well as the Champions League among other honours.
