One Liverpool star is likely to quit the club - if talk of a 'major' transfer plan is accurate.

Liverpool have a massive summer ahead. One in which they’ve got to try and correct the problems of this season - problems that were brought about because of a massive summer overhaul.

It doubles up on the pressure, essentially. The club don’t just need new signings to work, but they need them to get the most out of last summer’s signings, too.

That’s not easy to do and it’ll truly test Richard Hughes and company. And making things worse is the contract situation around Ibrahima Konate.

Will he re-sign with Liverpool? No one is sure and that creates an enormous complication when planning for the summer. It’s not clear whether the team needs a new senior centre-back.

Though, perhaps reports of a new plan suggest Liverpool do know.

Football Insider report that Liverpool are planning to sign another 'major' centre-back. That's despite dropping €60m on Jeremy Jacquet ahead of the summer.

But it appears the Reds feel they need another. It's an interesting stance, given it only makes any sense at all if Konate is leaving the club.

Virgil van Dijk certainly isn't leaving, while Giovanni Leoni joins Jacquet as the future of Liverpool's defence. That leaves three certainties heading into next season.

A 'major' arrival would be as a starting player, however, and it's difficult to imagine Liverpool want five centre-backs. Not unless there's a major change of system.

And so the new plan only makes sense if Liverpool are convinced that Konate will quit the club and move elsewhere this summer. There is absolutely zero need to spend big on a centre-back if he's sticking around as the player wouldn't play, nor would they have a spot in the future.

This is a real sign, then, that Konate could be off. Maybe it's a sign that Liverpool switch to a back three next season but that feels highly unlikely given Arne Slot has never used such a system.

Instead, we imagine Konate is leaving.
