Liverpool star FINALLY handed the perfect opportunity by Arne Slot

Liverpool’s season has not gone to plan, but Arne Slot may finally have a solution to the Reds’ poor form.

It is hard to establish the reasons behind the champion’s poor form over the last couple of months.

A number of individual errors have combined with a flawed system to drop Liverpool down the Premier League table, with six defeats in their opening 14 matches.

A number of false dawns have seen supporters hopeful that the side’s fortunes are changing, including wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid and more recently West Ham, but Wednesday’s draw against Sunderland showed that the struggles are not yet over.

One of Liverpool’s biggest problem positions this season has been right-back, but that might not be a problem for much longer.

Slot’s big problem at right-back

For over half a decade right-back was one of the strongest positions in Liverpool squad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was widely considered as one of the world’s best and his departure from Merseyside has been felt this season.

Conor Bradley stepped up and Jeremie Frimpong was bought in, but a combination of injuries has led to Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones also taking on stints as fullbacks.

Joe Gomez has emerged as a solid option over the past two matches, but the decision to drop Mohamed Salah saw Gomez often isolated on the right as Liverpool’s only wide option.

The Englishman put in admirable shifts against West Ham and Sunderland, but it is clear he isn’t the long-term solution.

Frimpong finally set to step up

The news that both Bradley and Frimpong will soon be back in training will come as a relief to supporters, but neither player has managed to make a serious impact when they have played this season.

That could soon change though, as the slightly more defined role Gomez has been tasked with playing over the last two games could offer the perfect opportunity for Frimpong to finally announce himself in English football.

In his last two matches Gomez has attempted nine crosses and six longballs, getting an assist against West Ham and playing to a plan that is much easier to see than when Jones and Szoboszlai have filled in recently.

Frimpong isn’t back to full fitness yet, but when he is he could slot into this role well and would offer considerably more going forwards for the Reds.

The Reds’ forward line has struggled to create high quality chances this season, but Frimpong supporting from the right flank could help to unlock defences and finally get the forwards firing.
