Liverpool on the brink of signing Alexander Isak
Liverpool have been stuck in traffic for the last few weeks, waiting for movement at Newcastle to give them enough encouragement that a move for Alexander Isak might genuinely be possible.
The player's intention has never been in doubt; he wants to get out of Tyneside as quickly as possible, having announced his plan to join the Reds and not play for Newcastle ever again.

But the Magpies have been unwilling to consider letting him go without having replacements in place.

Getting new strikers into the club has not been easy for Newcastle, with a number of public high-profile rejections having taken place, but now we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Newcastle have two strikers in mind
The last few weeks have been tortuous, not least because while the Isak updates have been positive, the news on the other end hasn't. Brentford's Yohan Wissa feels like a move that is almost inevitable now, but finding someone to partner the 28-year-old has been the main issue.
According to the reliable Craig Hope at the Daily Mail, the solution to the problem might be Paris Saint Germain's Goncalo Romos, who is said to now be back on Newcastle's agenda for a move.
In his report, it said: "The 24-year-old was on the club's shortlist earlier this month, only for sources to suggest a move was unlikely after initial enquiries.
"However, Daily Mail Sport has learnt that Ramos is now a live option for the Magpies. The Portugal forward has admirers within St James' Park and intermediaries have indicated that a deal is possible.
"PSG would be more minded to sell, rather than contemplate a loan, and we understand Ramos is on an ever-decreasing list of strikers Newcastle are exploring."
This move comes a little out of the blue given how influential Ramos was to PSG's Super Cup win earlier this week, coming off the bench to score the equaliser to take the game to a penalty shootout.
PSG will be lacking his dynamism if the Portuguese international is allowed to join Newcastle, but of course, Liverpool will be able to benefit significantly from his arrival, with Isak's transfer lurking.
At 24 years old, Ramos is still particularly young and alongside Wissa, he would be a really useful player for Newcastle, allowing them to move on from the haunting and distressing Isak saga.
The only issue appears to be time, given only two weeks of the transfer window remain, and we don't know how much PSG would be looking to get for Ramos, although his suitors will be well aware of the cash injection they'd get from Liverpool once the green light is given for an approach for Isak.
With this one, it feels right to not get too carried away. A lot of things still need to happen before the Reds can get what they want. But now that two strikers are being linked to Newcastle, which is a milestone in itself, you feel Liverpool are on the brink with Isak - closer than ever before to a move.

I can not believe what Howe has said about Isak (Isak needs to make up his mind what he wants to do) WHAT. How much clearer can he make it he has told Newcastle on at least 3 occasions he wants to leave he has said he does not want to play for them again how much clearer can Isak be. Listen to what the player is saying he want a Liverpool move he wants to leave he has made his mind up as to what he wants to do, you just refuse to listen to what the Isak is saying. Howe your in DENIAL.
