Liverpool must spend €150m to secure deal for 'unbelievable' star
Liverpool's attack has been stripped down to its bare bones at the moment.
Mohamed Salah has exited and with rumours clouding the future of Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo, Andoni Iraola could be left with just two attackers to choose from this summer.
Obviously, since Hugo Ekitike is out injured nothing will happen regarding him but, for Rio Ngumoha and Alexander Isak, it feels like they have a lot of weight to carry on their shoulders at the moment.
Liverpool's attack is arguably their most-needed area for upgrades at the moment but, with how many others positions among their ranks they need to improve, Iraola and Richard Hughes must ensure that the money is spread across the team evenly.
So, with this in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see Liverpool ruled out of the race for one of their long-linked targets after being told how much they'd need to pay to sign him this summer.
€150 million is what RB Leipzig are demanding for Yan Diomande
Yan Diomande is one of the most sought-after players in the world at the moment.
The Ivorian has been setting the Bundesliga alight this term and, since he can play equally as well on either wing, several clubs are vying for his transfer.
Liverpool have, however, been the team most linked with a move with the Anfield outfit first linked with an interest back in January.
But, after the Ivorian's impressive showing during his first game of the 2026 World Cup, a fresh update about RB Leipzig' demands has emerged.
"According to market insiders, the German club's initial asking price was around €100 million," Fussballdaten wrote.
"However, as competition intensified, the asking price rose to €130 million. Some reports even suggest that, considering the player's potential dominant performance at the World Cup, the deal will only be approved if the entire transfer package approaches €150 million.
"In his media statements, the player admitted to having heard about these exorbitant figures but preferred to observe the situation from the sidelines for the time being. He also acknowledged that not every club can afford such sums.
"The club pushing most aggressively in this race to secure Diomande a starting spot is undoubtedly Liverpool.
"The English giants are close to completing the transfer, having maintained almost daily contact with the player's representatives since last winter's transfer window."
€150 million is way too much for Liverpool to spend on Yan Diomande
Ever since January, €100 million has been the maximum that Leipzig have wanted for Diomande.
However, after they confirmed their Champions League status, they no longer needed to raise funds which gave them a bit more ground to stand on during negotiations.
So, with this in mind, a slight increase of the fee would be understandable but an extra €50 million is crazy.
The attacker has only had one season within a decent club in a top five league and, even though he may have put in a solid shift, it still doesn't feel like one season of good form is worth that much money.
Of course, any club that buys him will also be investing in his future so that needs to be taken into account but, honestly, it's unclear how good he could actually become.
If he carries on with this trajectory, he could easily become one of the best in the world but, if something such as an injury de-rails his season, that could send him backwards and stop him from reaching his best.
All these things must be considered before buying any player but, for a fee worth €150 million, it feels like Liverpool should avoid trying to sign Diomande at all costs, even if he has been described as an "unbelievable" player in the past.
