Liverpool make FINAL offer to star

Liverpool have made a final offer to a star player.

Richard Hughes has been hard at work ever since taking over his role as sporting director of the club. It's fair to say there has been little moments of peace for him in what has been a very busy period.

When he wasn't orchestrating transfers and one of the biggest overhauls in the club's history, he was negotiating contracts for some of the biggest legends to have played for Liverpool in the 21st century.

Those negotiations are almost as difficult as pulling off a major transfer and they dragged on for many months.

Now, you'd think after the incredibly hectic summer he has had, he'd be taking a rest. But that is far from what Hughes is doing right now.

He's embarking on new challenges and ready to plan ahead. Amidst all of this, there are some very important decisions for him to make. Decisions that will impact how Liverpool do business next summer.

Among the biggest decisions Hughes has to make right now is over the future of Ibrahima Konate. It seems like the Frenchman has been in a contract stand off with the club for over a year.

But things are about to come to a climax one way or another.

Konate now has less than a year left on his contract. It's about to expire at the end of the season. Just like with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid are lurking in the background and they're ready to steal him from Liverpool's grasp.

Hughes will want to avoid that. But he also doesn't want to overpay for a defender, who he might be able to replace. Konate is still not a world-class centre-back. His form this season in particular has been questionable and he is replaceable in the team.

So, you can understand why Liverpool haven't made a massive effort to tie his future down.

It feels as though Hughes is very relaxed about the situation, and he has just made an ultimatum. According to Indy Kaila, the contract offer made to Konate is the final one.

This was an offer made last week, and Konate's representatives are yet to make a decision about it.

The consensus among club officials is that it will make him one of the highest paid players at the club.

Real Madrid will undoubtedly also be keeping an eye on this situation.

Right now the contract is still on the table, and it's simply up to Konate to make a decision.

By the sounds of it, Hughes wants to clear this up before it escalates into another Alexander-Arnold situation and this is a very wise and sage move from the club's sporting director.
