By all accounts the club seems confident of getting a deal over the line for Wirtz.

According to Kicker, the midfielder is valued at €150m (£125m), which means Liverpool would have to break their record transfer fee by around £40m is a move is on the cards.

That's a huge fee to pay, especially when Liverpool have lofty ambitions. But Richard Hughes may already be working on a dream scenario for all parties involved.

A scenario in which Liverpool won't have to pay the full £125m sum in total but could land Wirtz for cheaper.

So how can Liverpool make this slightly more feasible? A 'swap deal' of sorts could be used to try and bring down the price.

According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg Bayer Leverkusen are interested in involving a Liverpool player as part of the deal to sell Wirtz to the Reds.

This makes sense. Leverkusen will be without their star player, so they will be looking to replace him, and instead of receiving a fee, we would simply pay a discounted price.

One of the players Liverpool use as part of the deal could be Harvey Elliott. Anfield Watch understands he is valued at around £50m by Liverpool so he could help bring the Wirtz fee down to £75m.

Elliott has been heavily rumoured for a move away from Liverpool this summer - not because he is looking to go anywhere, but because he has struggled to make an impact for the Reds this season.

Following an injury at the start of the campaign, which hindered him for a few months, the Englishman has not been able to find his way into Arne Slot's plans, often sitting on the sidelines.

This should not suggest that he is not a player who deserves to be benched. When he has played, he has made a difference to the team and the Liverpool fans adore him. He knows what it means to be a Liverpool player and his commitment to the club is unlike many others.

Elliott is not the only option though. Leverkusen are also loosing Jonathan Tah this summer so the Reds could offer them Jarrel Quansah as part of the deal as well.

Meanwhile, last summer Leverkusen wanted to sign Tyler Morton, so if their interest remains in the homegrown star he could also be involved in the deal.

Other potential players may be Caoimhin Kelleher with Leverkusen needing a new goalkeeper or Diogo Jota as the German side are also looking to bolster their attacking options.

The aforementioned stars are all fringe players at Liverpool who are likely going to be sold this summer anyway. Using them as part of the deal to land Wirtz is an absolute dream scenario.
