In spite of all the disruption around him, with the team constantly dropping points because of the lack of organisation and structure in Arne Slot's tactical approach, Dominik Szoboszlai is shining.

Most of his fellow Premier League title winners haven't been anywhere close to reaching the levels they demonstrated throughout last season, and the new signings haven't really clicked either, with Alexander Isak struggling to get on the ball, and Florian Wirtz missing out on goals and assists.

But in this time of crisis for Liverpool, the 25-year-old Hungarian midfielder has been unbelievable, regardless of where he's been positioned - be it as a full-back, a No. 8 or a No. 10 like he's used to.

No discussion is needed to confirm that Szoboszlai is Liverpool's best player. Reports are currently suggesting that the Reds are looking at signing another midfielder who is similar to the great man.

Szoboszlai regen to arrive in January?

According to Football Insider, the interest from Newcastle in Ferencvaros star Alex Toth has been matched by Liverpool, who have identified the 20-year-old as a potential target for a January move.

The young Hungarian midfield star has been getting regular minutes in both the Fizz Liga and across Europe in the Europa League and Champions League over the last few seasons, and he's performed really well under the spotlight - notching four goals and 13 assists in all competitions since 2024.

He is primarily more of a deep-lying player, who roams the pitch without getting too involved in attacks, although he creates a lot of chances for his teammates, making him a constant threat.

The performances he's been delivering were recognised by the Hungarian national team earlier this year, with Toth making his senior debut for the international set-up. He's since become a first-team regular, playing in a slightly more advanced creative role, with Szoboszlai sitting behind him. It's an insane achievement.

Newcastle have been looking at Toth as one of a few different midfield options for the January transfer window. Liverpool have also been drawn into their battle for AZ Alkmaar's Kees Smit.

The difficulty with fitting new players in, one both sides of the transfer battle with the Magpies, is that neither club is short of midfielders. Eddie Howe has Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Jacob Ramsay, Joe Willock and others at his disposal; meanwhile Slot has Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo, if we count Florian Wirtz as a forward.

If the intel from Sky Sports Germany is accurate - that Toth is available for just €15m - then you'd expect Liverpool to pounce on him when they get the chance, and Newcastle might be left in the dust if the youngster is excited by the prospect of playing alongside Szoboszlai, but it's won't be straightforward to get a deal agreed when the price tag is so exceptionally low.
