Liverpool in advanced talks to sign generational star
Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks to sign a generational talent.
Richard Hughes is expected to focus heavily on strengthening the Reds' midfield this summer, with a few question marks starting to appear around some key players in that part of the squad.
One of the biggest concerns right now is Curtis Jones. His contract is heading into its final year, and there doesn’t seem to have been much progress on a new deal. Because of that, there’s growing talk about what his long-term future at the club looks like.
At this stage, Liverpool could be open to letting the England international move on with Inter Milan very keen on the scouse star.
The uncertainty around Jones has also pushed the club to take a closer look at its midfield depth and future planning. Keeping things stable in that area is becoming more and more important.
There are still some questions around Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai too, even though both players are tied down until 2028.
Neither is expected to leave anytime soon, but Liverpool know there’s strong interest from other top European clubs, so protecting the core of the midfield remains a priority.
That said, the situations are a bit different for each player.
Talks with Dominik Szoboszlai are believed to be going well, and there’s increasing confidence that Liverpool will eventually reach an agreement to secure his long-term future at Anfield.
By contrast, talks involving Alexis Mac Allister have reportedly slowed in recent months, introducing a degree of uncertainty over his longer-term intentions despite his importance to the side.
And it looks like Liverpool are preparing for the future and a potential move to replace Mac Allister.
Michael Edwards has been at the forefront of this future proofing. He's already secured the signing of Samuel Martinez, who will arrive in the summer of 2027 - so next year. Martinez is regarded as Colombia's future and he has been likened to Kaka.
He could however be just one of a number of exciting midfield arrivals coming to Liverpool next summer. That is because Edwards is looking to land an even more exciting player.
He's looking to close in on a player who is regarded as a generational talent and potentially one of the best young players coming through in Germany right now.
Are you feeling a sense of de ja vu? We wouldn't blame you. Florian Wirtz was spoken about in the same length, and while he has been disappointing over the course of his debut campaign, there's much more to come from him.
He's still very young and could yet fulfil his exciting future.
But we are not talking about Wirtz right now. The conversation is about Kennet Eichhorn. Liverpool have emerged as one of the frontrunners to secure his signature.
He's only 16-years-old and he's already a regular for Hertha Berlin, who are playing in the 2.Bundesliga.
Eichhorn has become a key pillar there over the course of the campaign. Born in 2009, he actually became the youngest player to score in the DFB Pokal, which is the German equivalent of the FA Cup.
Now, it looks like Liverpool are in advanced talks to secure his services. Florian Plettenberg has reported that 'Liverpool want to sign him now and then loan him out for 1-2 years to a club ideally playing in the Champions League.'
According to Plettenberg, the move is so advanced that 'Liverpool are already speaking with clubs that could become possible loan destinations.'
If Liverpool could get this over the line, it could be huge. Eichhorn is one of the best 2009-born players playing in Europe right now. Even if Liverpool have to wait a year for him to join the Reds, it's worth securing his signature now, and it is something to be excited about for Liverpool supporters.
