Liverpool have signed the PERFECT winger
Liverpool signed the perfect winger for Arne Slot without even noticing it.
For a lot of this season, the Reds have struggled because there was a certain level of imbalance in the team. They've also struggled because Slot didn't have the profiles to suit his system.
Look at his teams at Feyenoord or AZ Alkmaar Slot always had a lot of speed in his team. Especially in attack, Slot has always played with high intensity and speed.
At Liverpool this season he's lost a lot of speed in attack with the departure of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz. Mo Salah is also no longer the speed demon he used to be.
That has had an impact. Liverpool have brought in a lot of quality in the summer but the one area where they have fallen short is addressing the speed problem.
Part of that is also down to the fact that the fastest player Liverpool signed has not been available for the majority of the campaign.
Jeremie Frimpong was clocking in top-speeds of 37km/h in the Bundesliga, and he's recorded the fastest top-speed for Liverpool this season as well (36.4km/h).
But the problem has been is that we haven't seen him on the pitch enough. He's picked up far too many injuries during his first six months at the club that have prevented him from having proper momentum in the team.
It's also probably played a factor into how Frimpong is perceived. A lot of people think that Liverpool signed Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But in reality, Liverpool actually signed him to be the perfect winger, without anybody noticing it.
You can see that now as he has returned from injury. Slot is using Frimpong in a lot more of an advanced role. He's picking up positions as a winger, even when he's playing as a full-back.
But a lot of the time, Frimpong is playing more further forward as a right-winger.
And in the last couple of games, we've seen why this just makes sense and works so well. Frimpong is a different winger profile to everyone else in this Liverpool team.
Unlike Mo Salah or Cody Gakpo, he's more of a facilitator who looks to create chances, put crosses into the box or play cut-backs to his teammates.
This is how Liverpool scored their second goal against Tottenham, with Frimpong putting in a cross that found Ekitike and this is how they opened the scoring against Wolverhampton as the Dutch international played a cut-back to Ryan Gravenberch.
On paper, Frimpong is the perfect winger for Slot. The last two games prove that, and we're going to be seeing a lot more of him in this role.
Hughes was a genius for picking him up for £29m. When everyone classified him as a right-back, Liverpool saw the winger he could become.
