There's a new Andy Robertson at Liverpool, and he is special.

Once upon a time, full-backs were the least of the club's worries. For close to a decade Liverpool had two of the best full-backs on the planet.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right and Robertson on the left, Liverpool looked impenetrable.

The two of them in their prime played such exciting and forward-thinking football. They terrified defences. Because it was one thing having to face Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on either flank but another to also face the full-back duo coming in behind.

Jurgen Klopp conducted such a beautiful heavy metal style that we all fell in love with it. It was addictive and incredible.

Now Liverpool fans around the world yearn for it to return. To go back to the good old days when Liverpool were invincible.

Liverpool's need to reinforce the left-back position

Robertson was allowed to leave on a free contract this summer, and he joined Tottenham. Liverpool have banked their future on Milos Kerkez, who was one of the most exciting young full-backs in the world when he signed for the Reds.

Unfortunately, things haven't yet worked out for him at Liverpool. Kerkez has shown promise, and he's getting better and better under Iraola.

But he has also faced a lot of criticism, particularly from the media and the fans.

For a young player, that can't be easy. Kerkez, after all, joined a team that completely malfunctioned under Arne Slot. It's difficult to showcase your talent in that environment.

He needs time and patience. He's shown just how good he can be.

Liverpool have produced a Robertson regen - Cameron Williams

While Kerkez is given the space and time to get better Liverpool are also in the process of producing their heir to Robertson's throne.

There's been a lot of hype around Cameron Williams at the club. He is a 17-year-old who came through the club's academy ranks and has represented Scotland at U17 level.

Williams has even trained with the Scotland senior team as a mere 16-year-old. But over the last year or so he has struggled with a serious injury.

He came back recently and registered an assist at the weekend for the Reds' U18 team against Sunderland.

It was a terrific performance from Williams who showcased just how good he is going forward. The youngster has two goals and three assists in 17 games from full-back for Liverpool's U18 side and three goals and one assist in 10 matches for Scotland's U17 national team.

Given his exciting attacking playing style and the fact that he is Scottish it's easy to see the resemblance to Robertson. Williams very much plays in a similar style to the former Liverpool legend.

Which is why he is someone to keep a close eye on.
