Liverpool go toe-to-toe with Premier League rivals to sign £50m star
Liverpool will have a lot of making up to do with their fans next season.
Although the Anfield outfit could still end up winning the FA Cup and the Champions League, their top flight performances have fallen well below expectations.
The Anfield outfit are sixth in the Premier League with 15 points separating them from first-placed Arsenal which, after the dominance they showed last term, is a massive fall from grace.
Indeed, a lot of this is due to the poor form that their first-team squad have been in but, in reality, it's their defence that has let them down the most.
That's why it's hardly surprising to see new defenders being the most-linked players with an Anfield switch.
And now, it seems like Richard Hughes and Arne Slot have their eyes set on one particular target who could help turn things round in an instant.
Liverpool are set to rival Chelsea for the transfer of Murillo
Nottingham Forest may already be on their fourth manager of the season but that doesn't mean that they don't have plenty of quality among their ranks.
This was more than proven last season when the club finished in seventh place, just one point outside of the Champions League places.
Indeed, they may be 17th at the moment but, they have had odd moments of class with Murillo being one of their better players once again.
And now, it seems like Liverpool and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head for his transfer.
That is, according to an update from TEAMtalk who share that the Brazilian is 'preparing to leave' Forest in the summer.
Murillo's camp are 'actively assessing' options to explore a potential move with the summer transfer window being his preferred time to make a switch.
Liverpool have done more 'ground work' on the centre-back than most teams with a bid even being weighed up by the Anfield outfit last summer.
Murillo is 'firmly' on the Reds' list for potential centre-backs to explore.
Murillo could help shore up Liverpool's back four next season
One thing that has been made abundantly clear this season is that Liverpool need some new defensive talent added to their ranks.
Indeed, they do have Jeremy Jacquet on his way but, since he's never played in the Premier League before, it's going to take some time for him to get adjusted to the physicality of the league.
And, with Ibrahima Konate's future still not set in stone, it's hard to see who Liverpool have among their ranks at the moment who could slot in next to Virgil van Dijk.
Murillo's Premier League experience coupled with the fact that he's only 23 years old make him an ideal candidate for Slot.
Sure, there's going to be other players on his shortlist but, of all the options on the table, spending around £50 million on the Brazilian makes plenty of sense.
