The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, has provided a fitness update on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

The midfielder missed the club's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur in North London last week due to illness.

However, Henderson is reportedly back in contention for selection.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Liverpool signed Henderson from Sunderland for a transfer fee of €18 million back in the summer of 2011.

Since then, the midfielder has gone on to score 33 goals and register 55 assists in 414 appearances for the club's first-team.

Henderson has also led the Reds to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title.

The aforementioned figures highlight that the 31-year-old has been a fine player for Liverpool over the years. With that being the case, it is great to hear that Henderson is back in contention for selection.

We look forward to seeing the Englishman back out on the pitch.
