Liverpool finally aiming to end five-year wait for 'high intensity' star

Liverpool are looking at a star they've wanted for some time. The end of a five-year wait?

Liverpool will continue to reshape their defence in the summer after investing heavily in young defenders. Last summer saw three arrive, of course.

Jeremie Frimpong became the most expensive right-back in Liverpool’s history, while Milos Kerkez repeated the trick at left-back. The latter also became the most expensive full-back we’ve seen with the Reds.

A centre-back arrived, too, in Giovanni Leoni. The Italian broke the record for Liverpool’s most expensive teenager, though injury robbed him of his debut campaign at Anfield.

And then the Reds invested further in their defence by agreeing a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. He’ll now join in the summer as, hopefully, the future at the back alongside Leoni.

But it also appears that Liverpool won’t stop there.

Liverpool eye Edmond Tapsoba

Liverpool have their eyes on Edmond Tapsoba, according to Fussball Daten. They’re far from alone in that, though, as several clubs feel they could pry him away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

The Reds are among those who feel he has the ‘high intensity’ to thrive in the Premier League. Though, they’ve thought that for a very long time now.

Liverpool tried to get Tapsoba all the way back in their injury-hit 2020/21 campaign. Per Patrick Berger at the time, they asked about the defender but were quoted too much.

Now, though, with Tapsoba in his prime and far more proven, Liverpool are ready to look again. And he may even be cheaper, given there’s not much suggestion that he’d be a starting centre-back for the club.

One to watch, then. We expect at least one centre-back to leave Liverpool in the summer. Tapsoba may well be the right replacement.
