Liverpool have a few more contract situations looming and they need sorting one way or another.

Whether this is agreeing to sell the player or committing to a fresh round of talks agree new terms, allowing players to potentially leave for free is not an option. The club is well aware of this now.

The past year of conversations with Trent Alexander-Arnold unfolded in a way that no one expected; after convincing the club to let negotiations with him continue into his final year, he decided to join Real Madrid - a move that had been rumoured for a few years. We almost received nothing for him.

As such, there is now a sense or urgency looking at those players who also now have just over one year on their deals, alongside those with two years remaining. A resolution is high on the priority list.

One player who is now being approach regarding his future is Andy Robertson and after speaking to the media, we have now been given a glimpse into what his situation will be like moving forward.

Robertson contract talks are on the agenda

Now that the 2024/25 season has concluded, and the players' international duties have been completed, Andy Robertson was finally able to start relaxing and recuperating in the off-season.

This week, he is running a golf day for a charity called AR26 named after himself, and after being invited to attend the event, Sky Sports got a chance to talk to him about all things Liverpool.

In the interview, he said: "We [Liverpool and himself] have discussed [contracts], of course we have. The club have been... we've had good discussions. But what the future holds, I'm not sure.

"All I know is that tomorrow I fly off on holiday and it's well needed. I need a rest after a long season and then I'll look forward to pre-season. That's all my focus is, I can't look too far ahead. I never have done that, so I'm not about to start doing that now.

"I know the position I'm in, I know I've only got a year left and a lot is getting spoken about and said [about that], but my pure focus is focusing on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids and then I'll try and come back in the best shape possible for pre-season.

"We'll see what the future holds when the decisions come."

From those quotes specifically, it's difficult to know whether he's positive or not about extending.

The last year on his contract is likely going to be spent on helping current transfer target Milos Kerkez to get to grips with the way things work under Arne Slot at Liverpool. His expertise and nous has helped him become an integral asset to the Reds and that wisdom will need to be passed on.

In terms of making way for Kerkez, it seems as though Kostas Tsimikas will be the outgoing left-back, with Robertson feeling confident that he will be around for the pre-season tour at least.

But whether his stay will extend beyond 2026 is a mystery. At 31-years-old, he's certainly nearing the end of his career and so Liverpool might want to replace him when his deal expires.

I mentioned earlier that allowing players to leave for free is not an option, but in certain case I think the rules can be bypassed. The Scotsman's arrival cost Liverpool just £8m and next season will be his ninth with us. The financial outlay spent on him will have undoubtedly been repaid long ago.

As such, we might just allow him to take a more reserved role next season, before he's let go of, although the contract talks might suggest that a short-term deal could also be in the offing.

Regardless, the situation is far from an urgent one with a new full-back coming in to freshen up the position this summer and Robertson can still be a really useful asset on his day.
