Mo Salah has done Arne Slot a favour after ASTONISHING attack

Everyone right now is talking about Liverpool and Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian King caused shockwaves at the Premier League champions over the weekend - following the interview he gave in the aftermath of the Reds’ game against Leeds United.

Let’s not rake over old ground - but suffice to say it looks like Salah’s burned his bridges with Arne Slot, Richard Hughes and maybe the rest of the Liverpool management structure.

The upshot is that Salah is the focus of attention - with many now speculating whether or not he’s played his final game for the club.

All of this just might end up being a convenient smokescreen for Slot, Hughes and FSG. Because while Salah may not be at his best this season - he is a VICTIM of Liverpool’s downfall rather than the cause of it.

Salah has been dropped for three Premier League matches in a row - the first time in his Liverpool career. Without him Liverpool stumbled to a 2-0 win over West Ham in London - a weak team with no prospects other than battling relegation.

They played for 45 minutes without him in midweek against newly-promoted Sunderland. Once Salah came on at half-time, he was the Anfield club’s best player. And on Saturday they drew 3-3 away from home against Leeds United - another newly-promoted side.

Salah of course - famously - didn’t get off the bench.

So two points - and zero wins - against a pair of teams who were in the Championship last season. How much of that is Salah’s fault directly? None. None at all.

None of this is Salah's fault

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Ibrahima Konate slid in on Willy Gnonto to give Leeds the chance to get back into the game at 2-0 down - when they were dead and buried. The Frenchman has been more culpable than Salah in this season's downfall.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Arne Slot has been unable to do anything about the so-called “low block” other than complain about it in press conferences.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Richard Hughes overlooked a proper replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Without the right-back’s supply, Salah’s legs have been cut off.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Darwin Nunez - Salah’s favourite centre-forward - was sold and a ring-rusty Alexander Isak brought in instead.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Luis Diaz - with his high-intensity pressing and his one-on-one dribbling capability was removed from the squad either.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Slot decided to build a new-look attack around Florian Wirtz without due consideration on what that would do to Salah in the lineup.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that a deal for Marc Guehi fell apart at the last minute - thereby denying Liverpool the extra centre-back they needed for a change of shape if required this season.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Wirtz and Isak’s signings aren’t working out. That is very much on Hughes and Slot. In fact, it’s NOT Salah’s fault that the club spent £450m on new players and somehow have got worse.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Cody Gakpo gets to contribute roughly the same kind of numbers as the Egyptian does but gets to be chosen in the starting XI time and again.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Slot cannot work out why his side are so vulnerable to direct balls hit to their backline.

It’s NOT Salah’s fault that Liverpool are conceding all kinds of chances owing to individual errors from Milos Kerkez and others.

Salah lets Slot and Hughes off the hook

We could go on.

But rest assured there are many more problems in this Liverpool lineup than a Mo Salah drop in form.

It’s hard to imagine a statue-worthy club legend being treated like this at another club. The situation is really sad - to see Salah singled out for this kind of treatment - pitted against the club, the media and the fans who have adored him since 2017.

Let’s hope we can work it out soon and Salah can get back to what he does best. The furore around Salah may well be a distraction and it’s allowing Slot and Hughes to escape scot-free.
