Liverpool's goal-scoring teenager Lewis Koumas earns FIRST Wales callup

Liverpool have seen another teenager picked by a national side for their first callup. The Reds’ future looks very bright.

Liverpool's season may not have ended the way they hoped but it's certainly being recognised as a positive at international level. Certainly, the highlight of the campaign was the explosion of youth talent making waves at senior level.

And as we say, that's being recognised. Lewis Koumas is now the latest to earn an international callup, with Wales picking him for the very first time.

Koumas made his debut for Liverpool back in February - his only appearance of the campaign. He made it one to remember, though, as the forward scored the opener for the Reds against Southampton in the FA Cup.

He became the fourth-youngest debut scorer in club history as a result. Still only 18, the future looks very bright for Koumas - and Wales clearly agree, getting him into the setup as soon as they can.

What's particularly exciting for Liverpool, though, is that this isn't a one-off.

Liverpool's callups

Koumas isn't the sole teenager getting a callup this month. He follows Ben Doak, who has been picked for Scotland's senior side despite just 30 Premier League minutes in his career so far.

Though, Koumas doesn't have any.

Both Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah earned their first callups to the England squad, too. Both are certainly far ahead of Koumas and Doak in their development but it's two more examples of academy players recognised at international level.

The more of those the better, in truth, as it's a perfect sign of just how well Liverpool are doing at developing talent. Hopefully, all four of them can use their experience this summer to kick on even further.

For Koumas and Doak, that will hopefully mean more first-team football next season - if they can impress Arne Slot, of course.
