Liverpool might have won the Premier League this season, but the attention is already turning to next season and how the Reds might look to back up their latest success.

Yesterday was magical. The fans on Merseyside and around the world got to finally see their team win a league title in front of their eyes - a stark contrast to the Premier League win back in 2020.

The Reds have been phenomenal all season long, despite some glaringly obvious flaws in the team.

But, while the weaknesses have been identified by rival fans of signs that the quality of the league has declined, the opposite is actually true. Liverpool are on track for a potential 94 point finish, which would put them in the highest echelons of Premier League winners, all while struggling at times.

Now that the title is wrapped up, with four games to go and before the month of May has even begun, the speculation has turned to next season - if the holes in the side are filled in with transfers that are tailor-made for Arne Slot's style of football, then how good can Liverpool get?

Darwin Nunez's flawed efforts will cost him this summer

One player almost destined to play his football away from Merseyside next season is Darwin Nunez, and the the reasons behind his inevitable departure are clear for all to see.

Since he arrived, he has been under pressure to perform, in part because he'd joined one of Europe's elite clubs, but also because an £85m transfer fee was agreed for him - a club record.

But the fans have always stood by his side, willing him to succeed more than any player they might have ever seen. He tries to make an impact, but lacks cutting edge - an omen that will cost him.

Writing in his latest column for the The Times, journalist Paul Joyce said: "Some [players] have not passed muster, including Darwin Nunez."

He's just not good enough. His critics have been on him like a rash and after three seasons of trying, it's now clearer than ever that the move is just a mismatch between the player and the club.

Brought in as a 'prolific' number nine, off the back of a 34-goal season for Benfica in 2022, he has since netted 40 goals in 139 appearances.

While Mohamed Salah might have taken the reigns this season, as he usually does, of delivering a high rate of attacking returns in front of goal, there is a clear understanding that the Egyptian will slow down eventually. Great teams need a great striker who can be a regular point of difference.

So despite the Premier League title win, which should be celebrated to the fullest over the next month, some players - including Nunez in particular - will find their futures at the club under threat.
