Arne Slot got his Liverpool coaching career off to the perfect start.

Recruited from Feyenoord in 2024 the Dutchman won the Premier League title at the first time of asking. But events have turned against the 47-year-old during a difficult second season in charge.

The Reds’ title defence was over before it began and the head coach has so far failed to find a plan to integrate all of his new signings.

Liverpool have won only 16 of their 32 games this season - including a total of only 10 of their 22 top-flight games.

Arne Slot contract extends to 2027

The decline has left Slot facing question marks over his future - with Xabi Alonso seemingly waiting in the wings following his departure from Real Madrid.

Slot was given a Liverpool contract ONLY until 2027 by sporting director Richard Hughes - perhaps giving the club some wiggle room in case things went south quickly.

And while the manager was due to sign a new contract after his title victory it now looks like those talks have been shelved until the end of the season.

Football Insider is now reporting that Slot has been told the only way he can keep his job beyond the end of this season.

Arne Slot must secure Champions League place

He MUST secure Champions League football for the Merseysiders - no easy task given the depth of competition in the Premier League these days.

“Arne Slot will face “serious question marks” over his job at Liverpool if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season,” the report reads.

“A top-four finish looks set to play a potentially pivotal role in deciding where Slot’s long-term future lies at the end of the season, and they are likely to have a fight to retain their position on their hands in the coming weeks.”

Liverpool haven’t won ANY of their last four Premier League matches - slumping to a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley in their latest outing.

Their upcoming sequence of fixtures includes Bournemouth away before facing Newcastle and Manchester City at home.

If Slot’s Reds are out of the running for the Champions League in the upcoming weeks and months then it could spell the end of Liverpool’s 2024/25 Premier League title-winning head coach.
