Liverpool can't let amazing homegrown star join Man United
Liverpool have got to step in and stop Manchester United signing a homegrown star.
Liverpool aren't having the greatest summer. They've been priced out of a move for Elliot Anderson - one that's now inflated the valuations of every midfielder, it seems.
Yan Diomande, their top target, picked Paris Saint-Germain instead. And all of this on the back of Ibrahima Konate deciding to leave on a free transfer for Real Madrid.
Well, what if things get worse? They might, you know, as Manchester United hope to sign an ex-Liverpool star.
The BBC report that Neco Williams may be available this summer from Nottingham Forest and that has United and Newcastle United both preparing to move for him. They each want a new full-back and view Williams as ideal.
Williams, of course, developed at Liverpool and broke into senior football at Anfield. His big problem was that Trent Alexander-Arnold played in the same role, limiting his minutes.
The Reds were then willing to sell the player as Conor Bradley was coming through to backup Alexander-Arnold. How things have changed.
With Alexander-Arnold now gone and Bradley battling to return from a serious injury, the space is now there for Williams. A homegrown talent in a position Liverpool need to strengthen? It would feel like a disaster for him to sign for United.
The Welshman never would have left in a different situation and it was only happenstance that forced him out. There's no question that he's good enough to play for Liverpool every week and that he's be a genuinely fantastic signing, even if it is at a massive loss.
And for him to potentially join United? It would be difficult to stomach. Richard Hughes, get involved and bring him home. Liverpool will be all the better for it.
