Liverpool have always invested in their future.

In fact, their current transfer policy is to buy young players who can continue to develop at the club.

This has been proven by the transfers of Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz this summer.

And, while each of those players are good enough to play for Liverpool now, the fact that their performance levels could increase over the next few years is incredibly exciting.

The Reds' academy has been one of the best in England for as long as many can remember with several players making their way through the ranks over the last few years.

So, it's hardly surprising to see that Richard Hughes and Arne Slot are sending scouts to look at one of Colombia's brightest prospects.

Liverpool send scouts to watch Samuel Martinez

Although Liverpool didn't sign any first-team players during the January transfer window, they did bring in Noah Adekoya and Mor Talla Ndiaye.

Both of these defenders are teenage sensations with massive futures ahead of them and, as per an update from Ben Jacobs, it seems like Hughes is still on the lookout for more youngsters to add to their youth ranks.

"Samuel Martinez starts for Colombia vs. Brazil in tonight's Sudamericano U-17 semi and is drawing interest," he wrote via X.

"Eduardo Conceicao on show for Brazil.

"Many European scouts present at the game, including from Chelsea, Liverpool and City Football Group."

Who is Samuel Martinez and why do Liverpool want to sign him?

Samuel Martinez is a 17-year-old attacking midfielder from Colombia.

Although he's still playing for Colombia's Under-17 squad, it's clear that he's a generational talent.

He's been one of the best players at the Sudamericano Under-17 tournament with his long-range shooting a sight to behold.

The midfielder is 'keen' on a move to Europe and, with the way that things are going for Liverpool's attack at the moment, it's clear why they want to sign Martinez.

His contract with current club Nacional is going to expire this summer with the midfielder choosing against extending his stay.

This means that he'll be available for a 'bargain' fee and, if his progression continues in this upward fashion, he could end up being an absolute steal.
