Julian Ward must sanction surprise Liverpool transfer for 'world-class' star

The transfer window may be shut at the moment but, that hasn't stopped Liverpool from being linked with new players.

The Anfield outfit have a lot of issues that still need to be resolved among their ranks and, if they don't manage to do that soon, they could end up falling massively behind their title rivals.

At the moment, they're unbeaten across all competitions but, with Manchester City actually winning all five of their opening Premier League games, it's clear that it's going to be a struggle for any club to de-throne them from the top spot.

Arsenal are three points behind the Cityzens while Liverpool are now six adrift.

Indeed, once the international break is over with, the Reds' first game back is against Man City so, this could already be a season-defining clash.

By the time January comes around, everyone will have a better idea of what to expect from Liverpool so, having a shortlist of players to potentially bring in would be massively useful.

But, with Julian Ward set to be appointed as the Reds' new sporting director, nobody knows which way he's going to take things which is why this surprise transfer needs to be sanctioned.

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Besiktas star Orkun Kokcu again

Liverpool's main problem area at the moment is their midfield.

They have four solid options for their double pivot but, since Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch can hardly play in that position yet, it's left Liverpool between a rock and a hard place.

Many different number sixes were linked with an Anfield switch in summer but, in the end, Richard Hughes and Iraola decided against bringing a new one in.

This has forced the rumour mill to continue turning and now, as per a fresh update from Fanatik, Liverpool have surprisingly been linked with a move for Besiktas star Orkun Kokcu again.

"The performance of Beşiktaş's new season squad has begun to attract the attention of English clubs," they wrote.

"Premier League team Liverpool is closely following captain Orkun Kökçü. In addition, two other clubs from England are interested. It has been learned that Tottenham is monitoring young central defender Emirhan Topçu.

"Beşiktaş management is expected to adopt a cautious approach towards offers for players they added to the squad at the beginning of the season and who have become important parts of the team.

"Beşiktaş will take the technical staff's opinion into account before evaluating any offers, especially regarding Orkun Kökçü and Emirhan Topçu."

Orkun Kokcu could be the exact type of player that Liverpool need

It's now clear to most people that Liverpool's next transfer needs to be a new number six.

As mentioned, the Reds do have four players who can be used there at the moment but, since two of them can barely play in a double pivot, it feels like all the pressure is being put onto the shoulders of Alexis Mac Allister as, at the moment, he seems to be the only player that can actually put a tackle in.

So, even though Liverpool signing Kokcu would result in them bringing in another non-homegrown player, at 25 years old, he could be a solid addition.

The Turkiye international was linked with Liverpool in the past, but, for one reason or another, it never came to fruition.

The "world-class" star is easily one of Besiktas' most important players so, any potential deal would definitely end up costing Liverpool a pretty penny.

However, if Ward wants to get his tenure off to a good start, signing Kokcu as the Reds' new number six would certainly be an easy way for them to do that.
