It’s happening, Liverpool to enter crunch midfielder talks

Liverpool are to enter major talks that could see them sell a midfielder. This looks like it's happening.

Liverpool have just a few more weeks to get their deals done. The Reds are in the process of reshaping their first squad for Andoni Iraola but there’s still a way to go.

In fact, there’s quite a way to go. Liverpool still haven’t replaced Mohamed Salah, nor have they addressed the future of several first-team players. Is Harvey Elliott sticking around? Federico Chiesa?

Then there’s the big possible sale: Curtis Jones. The Scouser has been linked with an exit since January, with Inter continuing their interest throughout 2026.

Jones only has one more year on his contract and it appears he won’t be signing a new one. Liverpool will naturally entertain bids for him and the price up to now has been around €40m.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter are confident they can get the Reds down to €35m, having previously seen a €30m offer rejected. That’s something that will come after sending Davide Frattesi to Lazio - which has now gone through.

Gianluca Di Marzio has echoed that, claiming the Frattesi exit is a precursor to Jones potentially joining. Inter will now approach Liverpool about the player and talks will follow.

Everything seems to be heading in that direction and we do imagine Jones departs if the club truly have set an asking price of €35m. Inter can afford it and will almost certainly pay it - they now need a midfielder, after all.

The only real question mark is whether it’s come too late in the window. Liverpool will have limited time to get a replacement in and might prefer to hold onto Jones and lose him for nothing in a year, rather than potentially leaving the squad short this season.

A massive decision is ahead, then. One that could dominate the next couple of weeks.
