It's go time, the perfect winger for Liverpool is here
Liverpool need a winger and he could be the perfect option.
Yan Diomande's cruel rejection has thrown a huge spanner in the works for Michael Edwards and his recruitment team. There is no way of sugarcoating just how much of a blow it is to miss out on the Ivorian star, who was the Reds' top target.
Sure, there remains an alternative option in Bradley Barcola, but it is moot whether PSG are actually willing to sanction a sale. Not to mention, Barcola probably doesn't solve the club's biggest problem, which is the need to replace Mo Salah and find a proper right-winger.
The Frenchman has played on the right a few times in his career but he is predominantly a left-winger. In an ideal world Barcola will be coming in to replace Cody Gakpo rather than Salah.
The question mark though is just who can replace the Egyptian? On paper, Diomande seemed like the perfect option. He si 19-years-old and producing numbers that very few players have achieved at the same age.
He seemed to have a genuine appreciation towards Liverpool as well, and a hunger to be the very best in world football. You cannot blame him for choosing PSG over the Reds, but you can be disappointed.
The truth is, alternatives for Liverpool are not going to be nearly as exciting as Diomande. However, Liverpool can still do what they have done in the past.
Just think about Mohamed Salah's arrival from Rome back in the summer of 2017. Everyone wrote Liverpool off. They had just missed out on Julian Brandt, who was the hottest attacker in the market at the time.
Nobody expected Salah to become the player he would end-up being at Anfield. Liverpool's recruitment team saw him as a gem, and they were justified in the end.
The question now is who can be the next Salah in the market? If Liverpool cannot buy the best thing in Diomande, they will have to broaden their search when it comes to the right-wing position.
There's been talk of Yankuba Minteh, and he surely is an option having been impressive over the course of the last few years at Brighton.
But there is also another interesting prospect, who will draw parallels with Salah.
Carlos Forbs.
He's just enjoyed a splendid campaign with Club Brugge, where he became a Belgian champion and one of the most important players for his team.
This is on the back of a couple of disappointing spells at Ajax and Wolverhampton, where Forbs, similarly to Salah, was never really given a proper opportunity to showcase his talent.
In Brugge, he was finally given that opportunity and Forbs lived with it. He finished the campaign with 23 goal contributions, while predominantly playing as a right-winger.
He impressed in the Champions League as well, scoring twice and registering an assist against Barcelona and also causing Atletico Madrid a lot of problems.
Still only 22-years-old, Forbs ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool. He is incredibly fast, capable of running in behind defences but he is also a good one vs one specialist, who had the best dribble accuracy rate (65%) of any player averaging four dribbles per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League last season.
What Liverpool need is a provider and Forbs is exactly that as well. He's very good at going down the touchline and putting balls into the box. He averaged the second most passes into the penalty area (4.23 per 90 minutes) in the entire Jupiler Pro League last season.
Forbs has speed, he is a good one vs one attacker and on top of that he is a provider - it's exactly what Liverpool need to unlock Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
Then on top of that because he came through Manchester City's academy, he's also a homegrown, so Forbs helps with Liverpool's issues in that area as well.
It just makes so much sense. It's finally go time for Liverpool, because the perfect winger is here.
