Incredible goal at just 17, wonderkid international is destined for Liverpool

One of football's most exciting wonderkids scored an incredible international goal this weekend. He looks destined for Liverpool.

Liverpool are in the market for elite young players. That should be obvious to anyone paying attention as the Reds have pushed for wonderkids over the last couple of years.

Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet, Lucca Brughmans and Djylian N'Guessan have all signed deals as stars of the future. Liverpool looked at other players in the summer, too, like Yan Diomande and Ibrahim Mbaye.

It's a process that won't be stopping anytime soon. Especially as one summer target continues to work magic and prove he's on another level to most.

Gilberto Mora is something else

Liverpool were consistently linked with a move for Gilberto Mora in the summer. The 17-year-old was the youngest player at the World Cup, looking good in a solid Mexico side.

Mora then started for his country against Ecuador in the Round of 32. That made him the second-youngest player to start a knockout match at a World Cup - only Pelé in 1958 has him beat.

All that was missing was a first goal. Mora has plenty at the professional level - 13 in Liga MX - but he's been missing one for his country. Something that's still wild to think about a 17-year-old.

Mora, who already has 13 caps, got that first goal on Saturday as his country faced Colombia in a friendly. Luis Suarez put Colombia ahead early on but the teenager responded emphatically.

A brilliant run in behind saw Mora pick up the ball in the box, with Colombia chasing him. He turned, dummied a shot to sit down the defender, then sent the keep the wrong way in a move that looked like it came from a 30-year-old veteran striker. Instead, it was from a 17-year-old playmaker.

Mora is unquestionably one of the biggest talents around and moments like this are only going to dramatically increase the competition for his signature. Liverpool have been early, though. Maybe that counts in their favour because the race to sign him this winter is likely going to be intense.
