"I would be looking at" - Emile Heskey names player Jurgen Klopp should sign

Pundit Emile Heskey would like to see Liverpool make a move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian is in fine form. Martinelli has scored four goals and registered two assists in 12 appearances for Arsenal's first-team this season.

The 21-year-old has also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.28 across the early stages of the 2022-23 campaign.

Heskey believes that Martinelli would be a superb addition to Jurgen Klopp's team.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: "I can’t see Arsenal letting Gabriel Martinelli go any time soon, but he’d definitely be someone I would be looking at if I was Liverpool.

"If you look at that aggression in his game, and the way he’s played so far this season, there aren’t many out there with his ability.

"He’s up and down the pitch, non-stop, for 90 minutes. He’s got the ability to drive at players, pull them in and out of positions.

"He’s confident and comfortable on the ball to a point where, as a defender, you aren’t quite sure whether he’s going to have a shot, put a cross in or take you on. Players like that, you’re always going to want in your team."

It is important to note that Liverpool have not genuinely been linked with a move for Martinelli.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Martinelli would certainly add strength and depth to Liverpool's attack. The forward is contracted until the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.

Martinelli possesses a current market value of €40 million. However, we would be very surprised if Arsenal sold one of their better players to a direct rival.

That would only strengthen Liverpool and weaken the Gunners. So, we don't expect to see Martinelli playing for Liverpool anytime soon.

But, there is always hope. Perhaps Liverpool and Martinelli will cross paths in the near future.
