Giant step taken towards completing Liverpool transfer
Liverpool have taken a giant step towards completing another transfer. This one might be in the bag.
Denzel Dumfries could yet be a Liverpool player. The Reds tried to sign the Dutchman back in January, albeit on loan.
Inter rejected that approach and honestly, it never made much sense. Dumfries had been injured for months - surely not who you need to step in during an injury crisis.
But attention always moved towards the summer. Dumfries will have a €25m release clause in his contract and Liverpool are consistently linked with triggering it.
That's a bargain price for a player this good and especially one who plays internationally with several Reds. The only question was whether Inter would make Dumfries a massive contract offer that removes the clause.
It's been reported in several places that they intended to do that - but now it seems they have a different idea. TuttoMercatoWeb claims they've now found the player they want to replace Dumfries: Atalanta's Marco Palestra.
They'll only sign him if they get money from Dumfries' sale, suggesting they've moved on from the idea of spending a lot of money to keep their player. There's no desperation for him to stay anymore - and that means a step towards a transfer.
Liverpool were interested in January and Conor Bradley's injury likely forces them to consider right-sided players this summer. Dumfries will almost certainly be high on that list.
Denzel Dumfries: Situation Summary
Inter Milan Performance and Title Charge
As of 19 April 2026, Denzel Dumfries has re-established himself as a vital component of Cristian Chivu’s Inter Milan side following a lengthy ankle injury earlier in the season. On 12 April, the 30-year-old wing-back delivered a Man of the Match performance, scoring a second-half brace to inspire a 4–3 comeback victory against Como. This result moved the Nerazzurri nine points clear of Napoli at the top of Serie A with just six matches remaining. Across the 2025–2026 campaign, Dumfries has recorded three league goals and one assist in 17 appearances, while also netting twice in five Champions League fixtures before Inter’s quarter-final exit.
Transfer Speculation and Release Clause
Despite being under contract until 2028, Dumfries is widely expected to leave San Siro this summer. Reports on 18 April 2026 indicate that Bayern Munich have made him a primary target for manager Vincent Kompany, though they face stiff competition from Manchester City and Barcelona. Interest has been intensified by the revelation of a €25 million release clause applicable only to foreign clubs, which many European giants view as a bargain for an experienced international. Inter are reportedly already scouting replacements, such as Atalanta’s Marco Palestra, as they prepare for Dumfries to head to the 2026 World Cup with his future likely resolved.
