Future of ‘important’ Liverpool sensation is now clear

Liverpool's team for the 2026-27 season is far from confirmed.

The Reds may have signed three new players already but, after the shambles of last season many more changes are needed.

Arne Slot being replaced was one of the main things that they needed to do but, player-wise, Andoni Iraola still needs to make a lot of changes before they're ready to compete for the Premier League title again.

Of course, the Champions League and other pieces of silverware will also be high on their list of priorities but, after Arsenal managed to win the Premier League last term, that can't be allowed to happen again.

So, if changes need to be made, then that's what Richard Hughes and Iraola will need to do.

Indeed, this could mean that certain players from Liverpool's first-team squad are sacrificed but, if it's for the greater good, then that is a decision that may need to be made.

Cody Gakpo is now a 'very important' target for Tottenham Hotspur

Last season was probably the worst that Cody Gakpo has ever performed for Liverpool.

Most fans thought that the Dutchman would thrive thanks to not having any competition from Luis Diaz on the left-wing but, in reality, it actually made him worse.

This led to fans demanding that Rio Ngumoha replaced him in the Reds' starting XI and, by the end of the season, the 17-year-old was Liverpool's first-choice.

Since the 2025-26 season ended, Victor Munoz was been welcomed to Liverpool and, since Kieran Morrison and Lewis Koumas haven't found a new club yet, they could also find themselves as part of Iraola's plans this term.

And, with all the recent rumours surrounding Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola, there's not really going to be any room for Gakpo.

So, that's why these two recent updates from journalist Joost Blaauwhof could have sealed the Dutchman's future.

"Any potential arrival of Savinho at Spurs is entirely separate from the situation surrounding Cody Gakpo," he wrote in his first post.

"Roberto De Zerbi has other roles in mind for the attackers from Manchester City and Liverpool. Difficult transfer, but the Oranje international remains a very important target."

The journalist then made another post and added a bit more to his statement.

"Tottenham Hotspur has formally expressed interest in Cody Gakpo to Liverpool."

With Ferran Torres on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain, it's clear that Liverpool's bids for Barcola and Mbaye are going to be well recieved by the Parisians.

They've already signed Maghnes Akliouche and, with Mika Godts potentially on his way to the Parc des Princes, there's not really going to be any room for Barcola or Mbaye.

And, since the Reds desperately need new attackers before the 2026-27 season kicks off, it feels like Gakpo will have to be sold soon.

The Dutchman may have only recently signed an extension with Liverpool but, it feels like his time at Anfield is coming to its natural end.

With Tottenham still having him as a "very important" target, it feels like now is the time for him to be let go.

Liverpool should earn a decent chunk of change from his transfer and, while it won't completely pay for Barcola, it'll certainly go a long way towards his fee.
