Fabrizio Romano confirmation sets scene for Liverpool, timeline to sign genius player
Fabrizio Romano has laid out the timeline and now Liverpool know what they've got to do. A truly genius player will be on the market.
Liverpool have made a habit of signing the best-possible talents in world football over the last couple of summers. That thinking has seen them spend over nine figures on three different players, having never come particularly close to spending that before.
But it's the new strategy. Sign the best players available and then find a way to build a functioning team out of them. While that last bit has been a struggle up to now, there's a lot of faith in Andoni Iraola to figure it all out.
It also means that Liverpool will once again look for a big name in 2027. We do expect major signings in midfield and at centre-back but that doesn't mean the attack is completely sorted.
In fact, there is room for another big arrival next year, especially after the Reds tried to sell Cody Gakpo at the end of the transfer window. Couple that with a need for some sort of left-footed attacker and we think the chance is there for arguably the most exciting signing of all.
Nico Paz up for grabs
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Nico Paz will not move in January. Instead, it's expected that there will be a battle for his signature next summer when Real Madrid have a buyback clause.
This is the second buyback clause they've had for Paz. The first was activated last summer, only for Los Blancos to immediately sell him back to Como with an increased one.
Como, then, know they can't control his future beyond next summer. They have no intention of changing that and will refuse any January offers on account of his form this season and importance to the team.
Paz is quite clearly one of the biggest prospects in football right now. He was outstanding last season and looks improved in this campaign - a genuinely sensational talent who can seemingly do it all.
We've written recently about just how good Paz is and just how much of an impact he could have on Liverpool's attack. He's the kind of player that everyone should try to sign. It's exactly the situation that the Reds current strategy calls for, in fact.
One in which you sign the best available player and then look to make it work. Paz is exactly that: the best player available.
With the caveat that Real Madrid could ultimately look to integrate him. We feel that's a little unlikely given the wealth of attacking midfield options they already boast - it would be difficult to guarantee him a starting XI role from the get go.
Liverpool could. And should.
