Club boss SPEAKS as sudden Liverpool deal reportedly very close

Liverpool are reportedly close to striking a January deal. One club boss has spoken out as talk continues to grow.

Reports have grown in recent days that Federico Chiesa is going to return to Italy. The winger has been linked with a return like that for around a year now - ever since it was clear that Arne Slot wouldn’t give him game time.

It was a shock that he didn’t leave in the summer, in all honesty, but Chiesa refused to give up on making it at Anfield. But even some decent performances this season haven’t been enough to force him into the starting XI.

And so 18 months into his Liverpool contract, Chiesa has started in the Premier League just twice. It’s maybe no surprise, then, that this transfer window sees the talk around a transfer reach new heights.

The Reds are reportedly open to selling back to Juventus, initially on loan, and talks are underway. That’s the line out of Italy, anyway.

But is it true?

Spalletti speaks out

Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken out on a potential move for Chiesa. He was asked in the wake of Juve’s 3-0 win at Sassuolo on Tuesday.

However, Spalletti suggested there’s nothing to it.

“I am pleased you are giving me this news, seeing as we haven’t even had a meeting yet on the transfer market,” he said, per clickliverpoo.com.

“But it’s the first I’ve heard of it. For the moment, it’s just thrown out there. But [there is] absolutely nothing concrete behind it.”

Now, we wouldn’t expect Spalletti to come out and admit it. But that’s also a far more emphatic denial than he really had to make.

Thus the Chiesa situation remains in the dark. No one is particularly sure what’s going to happen at this stage but it certainly feels as though the player has next to no chance of every being a regular for Liverpool.

There will be offers this month - that’s inevitable - and so whether it’s to Juventus or not, we still expect the Reds to let him go.
