There are a number of changes being made at Liverpool this summer.

Most notably these changes are taking place not just in the first team but at academy level as well. Liverpool are expected to appoint a new U18 manager, and have already confirmed the arrival of Rob Page as the club's U21 head-coach.

Naturally, with new managers in charge, there will be somewhat of a new philosophy, although the club's key principles and foundations at academy level will always remain the same.

There will also be new players coming in, and some academy hopefuls who will have added competition and an even more difficult pathway into the first team.

What this simply means is that some academy players at the club will look to pastures new, and will leave the club this summer.

Already we have seen Cornelius Akaunu join Bournemouth, and now he's followed by another Liverpool duo joining Brentford.

Brentford FC have confirmed their new academy scholarships for the 2025/26 season and as Lewis Bower reports, this includes two Liverpool academy players, who have now completed a move to the London based club from the Reds.

Goalkeeper Layton Nicholls and left-back Nathaniel Ogungbemi both join Brentford from Liverpool and they will be trying their luck at the Bees' academy.

Interestingly, this is not the first time in recent years that Brentford have signed academy players from Liverpool.

Centre-back Kerron Samuels was brought to Brentford back in 2023. Meanwhile, Ben Winterbottom, who is a goalkeeper, arrived at Brentford in 2021.

The former is now a free agent, with Samuels having been released by Brentford this summer. Winterbottom has also left the London-based side this summer.

He has joined Barrow on a free transfer, after several loan spells away from the club.

Nicholls and Ogungbemi will hope to fare a lot better than the two aforementioned names. Naturally, it's disappointing to see young talent leave the club.

However, it's obvious if they were highly regarded prospects Liverpool would never have let them go. For this young duo, this is a new opportunity to thrive at Brentford, where they will be guaranteed opportunities.
