Arne Slot will sign perfect Liverpool transfer target after what happened this week
Liverpool have a lot of work to do next season.
The Anfield outfit have been a fraction of their former selves this term with clubs such as Bournemouth and PSV making them look like amateurs.
Of course, the Reds were always going to be in a transition period this term after all the additions that they made but, nobody expected them to be outside of the Champions League spots at this point in the campaign.
This lack of form has caused many rumours to emerge ahead of the summer transfer window and now, Liverpool have seemingly moved a step closer to signing their dream transfer target.
Liverpool pushed closer to signing Nico Schlotterbeck after Borussia Dortmund's Champions League knockout
Nico Schlotterbeck has been linked with a move to several top European clubs this summer.
The German's contract is set to expire in June 2027 and, even though Borussia Dortmund want him to say, their recent lack of success has made that difficult.
The Bundesliga outfit were recently knocked out of the Champions League by Serie A outfit Atalanta after Lazar Samardzic scored a 98th-minute penalty.
Indeed, Schlotterbeck deciding his future after just one game seems a tad harsh but, seeing as though he's now 26 years old, this could be his last chance to make a big move.
And, since Dortmund are unlikely to win the Bundesliga or the Champions League any time soon, the German will clearly be thinking about exiting Signal Iduna Park while he has the chance.
Liverpool could end up in drivers seat for Nico Schlotterbeck
For what seems like the longest time, Liverpool have been linked with Schlotterbeck.
The defender can play as a centre-back or a left-back which, in this day and age, is essential.
He's a full German international and, to be honest, he'd be an asset to any team that he chose to join.
Schlotterbeck is one of Dortmund's best defenders and, since Arne Slot could end up losing Ibrahima Konate for nothing this term, it's clear that the Reds' defence is going to be their key area of improvement.
Unless another team such as Bayern Munich lay a more enticing offer on the table, Slot and Richard Hughes could put the Anfield outfit in the drivers seat to sign Schlotterbeck.
This would be an incredible move for the club, especially since the futures of Giovanni Leoni and Andy Robertson are still up in the air.
