Antoine Semenyo's stunning revelation confirms why he's destined for Liverpool

Antoine Semenyo is very much on Liverpool's radar ahead of the January transfer window.

Sure, the club needs to invest in the centre-back department. However, they also need to find a way through low-blocks.

A lot of the conversation centres around this about Liverpool needing better creators and build-up players to draw out the opposition. Sure, someone like Adam Wharton could be handy.

However, it misses an important aspect that Liverpool are also lacking right now. One way to break down low-blocks is also to have players create space by drawing defenders to them and beating those defenders in one vs one, or one vs two situations.

Right now Liverpool don't really have a player like that. Arsenal (Eberechi Eze) and Manchester City (Jeremy Doku) do and that's why they are far more effective at getting results against low-blocks.

This is where Antoine Semenyo comes in.

He plays in a traditionally 'transitional' Bournemouth side who have been profiled as counter-attacking. But he isn't necessarily someone who will run behind defences and exploit open spaces.

Semenyo thrives in tight spaces. He's good at holding up the ball and using his strength as well as his two-footed ability to draw defenders away, beat them and create space for his teammates in the process.

At Liverpool having a player of his ilk could be a huge asset. A bit like Luis Diaz, Philippe Coutinho or Sadio Mane, as well as Mo Salah in his prime, Semenyo is comfortable at running at defenders and getting the ball out of those tight spaces.

In the process, he draws defenders away, and creates space for teammates. We saw how effective this was against Burnley when Rio Ngumoha was introduced.

He's similar to Semenyo in his ability to run at defenders, and he was able to draw out Burnley's defence, which allowed Jeremie Frimpong to find himself open in the box. Ngumoha found him, Frimpong missed the chance but Liverpool got a throw-in and went onto win a penalty from that throw-in, which ultimately secured victory for the Reds.

These are the kind of actions Liverpool's attack is lacking at the moment. There just simply isn't anyone capable of doing this effectively in the team right now.

It's why Semenyo makes so much sense. But it's not the only reason. We could talk about how effective he is at his pressing game. How good he is at winning back the ball high up the pitch.

Again this makes him an asset and improves Liverpool in an area where they have struggled.

But perhaps one of the biggest factors that confirms he's destined to join Liverpool is his stunning revelation to BR Football.

Speaking earlier this year, Semenyo was asked to describe his position. Now usually most people will profile him as a winger, whether it's on the right or the left.

But Semenyo's answer was more surprising than that.

'Right-wing, left-wing, can play nine. Can play in the 10," Semenyo said.

Michael Edwards loved these versatile players during his time at Liverpool. And Semenyo has played centrally a lot throughout his career.

So his revelation simply confirms that this is a deal that looks very much like a deal that is bound to happen.
