Andoni Iraola makes final decision about Liverpool cult-hero

Over the last few years, Liverpool's first-team squad has changed dramatically.

During Jurgen Klopp's era, the German was rarely handed much transfer budget to change things around but, in Arne Slot's second season, Fenway Sports Group gave him £450 million.

On paper, most of the transfers made a lot of sense with Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak being the stand-out choices.

However, because of injuries, a lack of cohesion and the poor tactical choices from Slot, nothing worked out.

This led to some fans asking for the return of some players with Andoni Iraola now making a decision about one of the Reds' former cult-heroes.

Liverpool are not going to try and re-sign Darwin Nunez

With Hugo Ekitike out injured until who knows when and Mohamed Salah exiting, Liverpool's attack is in a bit of a shambles.

Of course, players such as Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz could fill in the gaps but, since seasons are incredibly long and gruelling these days, Liverpool need plenty of options to choose from.

That's why, with Darwin Nunez set to exit Al-Hilal for free, the Reds were linked with a move for their former player.

The Uruguayan was moved on last summer due to his erratic finishing and the fact that Ekitike and Isak were coming in.

And, while his time in the Saudi Pro League started off well, when Karim Benzema was signed, the attacker was de-registered and told that he was no longer needed, resulting in him wanting to terminate his contract and leave for nothing.

This piqued the interest of Liverpool's fans as, with Ekitike out of action, they were clearly going to need a new number nine and, since Nunez always gave his all, he seemed like a perfect option.

But now, a fresh report from Football Insider has put those rumours to bed.

"Darwin Nunez is attracting interest from Premier League clubs including Newcastle United as he edges closer to leaving Al-Hilal this summer," they wrote.

"Liverpool are not set to move for his services soon, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, numerous Premier League clubs remain keen on a move to sign Nunez.

"He registered nine goals and five assists in 24 matches across all competitions for Al-Hilal last term.

"While Liverpool have been heavily linked, they are focusing on bolstering their wing options rather than adding depth at centre-forward."

Andoni Iraola must have other plans in his mind for Liverpool

One of the most obvious transfers that Liverpool could make this summer is Yan Diomande.

The winger has been linked with an Anfield switch for as long as many can remember with his performances for RB Leipzig attracting some major interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been strongly linked with a move for the attacker but, since they already have an abundance of options at their disposal, a deal with the Ligue 1 giants feels a tad more unrealistic for Diomande.

If he joined Liverpool, he'd instantly fill Salah's void and would be starting almost every game but, with PSG, he'd be rested and interchanged with his teammates.

Other players such as Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Bradley Barcola, Rayan and Eli Junior Kroupi have also been linked so, even though a deal for Nunez is off the table, Liverpool are certainly not short of options.

Here's hoping that Iraola and Richard Hughes have a clear plan in their mind before the market gets too competitive.
