An African super talent is now on his way to Liverpool.

Liverpool has always had a strong connection with African football, and some of the biggest stars of the modern era have come from the continent.

During Jurgen Klopp's time at Anfield, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah became two of the most important players in the club's recent history. They were absolutely central to Liverpool's trophy-winning years and created countless memories for supporters along the way.

They were also two of the biggest names in African football. Their rivalry extended beyond Liverpool, with the pair regularly competing against each other at the Africa Cup of Nations and for the African Footballer of the Year award.

But Liverpool's relationship with African players goes back much further than the Klopp era.

Bruce Grobbelaar became one of the Premier League's first major African stars, while South African Gordon Hodgson remains Liverpool's fourth-highest goalscorer of all time.

Over the years, players such as Momo Sissoko, Joel Matip, Kolo Toure, Naby Keita and Titi Camara have also represented the Reds. Each brought something different to the club and, in their own way, became popular figures among the Anfield faithful.

Interestingly, though, Liverpool's squad currently has very little African representation.

In fact, Mor Talla Ndiaye is currently the only African player on the books. The youngster arrived in January and has already been given a taste of first-team football under Andoni Iraola.

Given Liverpool's history with African talent, it will be interesting to see whether Ndiaye can become the next player to carry that tradition forward.

It will also be nice to see Liverpool shopping directly from Africa. They've rarely done it. Before Ndiaye, the last player they signed from an African club or academy was Taiwo Awoniyi.

Now over the course of the last 24 months, Liverpool have made a concentrated effort to broaden their horizons and bring in new players from across the globe.

They have recruited more scouts in new regions and have also appointed a Head of Global Talent Manager in Matt Newberry.

As well as Ndiaye, Liverpool have also agreed a deal to sign Sidy Barhama Ndiaye when he turns 18-years-old from Senegal and have been in talks to bring in Diego Pelembe from Mozambique.

Now there are more exciting young players heading to Anfield from the continent as well.

Back in February, Liverpool welcomed Steve Bubacarr Trawally, the president of BST Galaxy, a club and academy in Gambia.

Trawally is a Gambian international footballer, and he has been working closely with BST to develop the next generation of Gambians.

Several young players have since gone onto play in Europe and also earn call-ups to Gambia's senior national team.

During the meeting in February, Trawally was welcomed by Barry Hunter, who is Liverpool's Head Scout, at the AXA training centre and held constructive talks over the possibility of a strategic collaboration between the two clubs.

This is coming to fruition.

Because Zee Sports in Gambia is reporting that Liverpool are now bringing two trialists to Kirkby from BST in Musa Jatta and Sheriff Bah.

The latter has highlights of him on YouTube and looks like an absolute super talent with experience playing as a no.10 in the top flight of Gambia.

Bah's skills and ability to be a connector in that role while also scoring goals makes him a really exciting player, and he is someone to keep a close eye on as he is on his way to the Reds.

Whether he can get a contract will depends on how his trial period goes.
